Motivation vs. Dissatisfaction

Daniel Pink wrote in his best seller, "Drive" that people are motivated by three things primarily: autonomy, mastery and purpose. We want some control over what happens in our career and to us, we want to become good at what we are doing, and we want our work to be meaningful.

What makes people most dissatisfied with their work or career is anonymity, irrelevance and immeasurement. We want to be “seen," we want to know that we matter, and we want to understand what success looks like and how we are doing. These seem like simple concepts, and they are. However, consistently leading with these in mind is the challenge.
