Let’s Dance
I always get a little sad at the end of summer. Whether summer yielded all the freedom and fun that was anticipated or not, the prospect of fall coming was always a little depressing to me. As we move through the seasons, we are invited to lean into the transitions of nature and take comfort in the cycle that is happening around us, in spite of our need for control.
When I am a little sad about not getting my full dose of summer fun, it is helpful to recognize the inevitable rhythm of the world and how it carries me with it. The same rhythm is happening inside us and inside our organizations. This “dance” is happening whether we are participating or not. If you look closely, you will feel it and see it, in yourself and in your colleagues. We shift our attention to a bit busier life with kids in school, a budget to finalize, a strategic retreat to prepare for and a year to wrap up and hopefully, lessons to learn.
So, lean in and join the dance. Let mother nature take the lead. The last warm, sunny days of the season will gently coax you into a faster rhythm, as the pace of life’s music picks up. Accept the increasing movement as part of the dance and feel the joy that is there as you are swept up in the pace.
Summer will come again, and you will be ready for that change too.
